Book Review: Declutter Now!

So I have to be completely honest and upfront about this entire book and review. My opinions may be slightly biased even though I’m striving to be objective.

First, the description from Amazon: We all have too much STUFF! Not just tangible things, but also the harmful clutter we allow to take up residence in our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. Every area of your life must be decluttered for you to live with the joy and freedom God desires!

We’ll clean out closets, relationships, and finances. We’ll share ideas on decluttering your children’s lives from the get-go, and how to instill tools they’ll need to keep them that way. We’ll navigate through challenges at work and critical career decisions. Are you burdened by emotional ties that bind or physical problems which keep you in bondage? We’ll tackle those too! Does your spiritual life feel empty or stalled?

We desire to help! Declutter what you don’t need to make room for what really matters. Less can truly be more! Do you long for more peace and harmony in your life? Do you desire more quality time with family? Are you seeking relief from financial burdens? Are you ready to release the grip of guilt and obligation? Do you yearn for an increased ability to serve God?

Declutter Now! is for REAL people dealing with REAL life! Discover the tremendous joy possible when living a decluttered life for Christ.

My review: Truthfully, I know the authors. Well, kinda. They emailed me several months ago when they were considering using the same publisher I used for my books and we have since developed an email friendship (being as we live on opposite sides of America!). I was excited for them as they began their publishing journey, and can well imagine their joy when their books arrived in the mail.

All that being said, I truly believe I would give this book high marks even if I didn’t know them. I love the way the book is broken down, dealing with each area of life in a separate chapter. Each chapter builds on the last, but they are also independent, so I was able to skim one chapter and thoroughly read the next that felt more applicable to what God was dealing with in my heart without feeling like I’d missed something.

Lindon and Sherry also covered life areas well, from physical clutter in our homes, to relationship clutter, to work and schedule clutter. And I loved the chapter on teaching our children to the evaluate clutter in their lives, training them up in this life analysis so it’s normal for them and not a life-overhaul like it is for me!

Everything they recommended was backed up with solid reasoning and great Scripture. But none of it felt forced or condescending. As I read the chapters, I felt like I was sitting in their living room and they were talking to me from their life experience, mentors passing on what they had learned. And not all of it was learned easily. Within the pages of the book they share mistakes and struggles as well as successes.

If life feels stressed out and overwhelming, this might be a great book for you. I would recommend that even if you just want to tweak some things but aren’t sure how to proceed, to check out this book. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

All opinions expressed are mine and I was not reimbursed for this review. The book was provided to me for free from the authors but they had no expectations of a review nor was I encouraged to make my review positive.
