Holidays Crossing-Style

Yes, I do know it’s only the middle of October. But that means we’re just barely a month from Thanksgiving and only about two months from Christmas! It’s my favorite time of year!

In Crossing Values, Amber arrives in Crossing just before Thanksgiving and is immediately confronted with the sounds, smells and work of a big family, holiday gathering. One of the things I love about Faye’s Thanksgiving is that she pulls in more than just her family. She includes others that loves and holds dear even though biology doesn’t unite them.

I guess that speaks to me because my family and I have experienced holidays alone. During our military life, we moved about every two-and-a-half years. And we spent more than one Thanksgiving sitting at home with just each other.

Now please don’t think I’m discounting that. I love my husband and my children. We recognize that we are highly blessed to have each other, a home, heat, food. But you never quite realize how much you miss your family until you get to a time of year that’s all about family and your family is hundreds of miles away.

And that’s when God’s family can step in and be the family we really are.

I challenge you as you begin to plan for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Look around you. Who may need a little extra attention, a special invitation to dinner, a reminder that you care?
