“The Price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.” Great words spoken by President Ronald Reagan. As a military wife, those words hit very close to my heart as all the emotions from pride to fear mingle. Yet, I agree with him. Even in the midst of the uncertainty of tomorrow, I am willing to pay the price for freedom.
This 4th of July, as we celebrate our nation’s Independence, I cannot help but remember all those who sacrificed on my behalf, who gave up the lives they were living to fight for freedom here in America and on shores across the oceans that I may never see. However this day passes for you, consider the words of a World War 1 soldier who said, “I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost as if the whole issue of the struggle depended on me alone.”
Imagine an America where we all valued freedom — other people — that much. I believe we get a glimpse of it after every natural disaster, every attack on our soil. Where do you see it? Or have you stopped looking for it? Consider that as you watch President Reagan.
