Thank you, Veterans

The Star Spangled Banner. Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the U.S.A. The U.S. Air Force. Anchors Aweigh. The Army Goes Rolling Along. Marines Hymn. Semper Paratus.

Seven very different songs, but they all communicate the same things to this U.S. Air Force girl’s heart. The same things the American flag and each uniform within our Department of Defense represent to me.

Honor.

Courage.

Commitment to a cause bigger then themselves.

Sacrifice for the greater good.

Love.

A love that will place itself between me, my children, my loved ones and evil.

No matter the sacrifice.

Fully committed.

Sometimes drawing on every ounce of courage within.

Fulfilling their duty with honor.

Thank you Veterans

Saying “Thank you” seems inadequate, even when I can squeak it out past the lump in my throat.

But I am thankful.

To all the Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, and Guardsmen: I honor you this Veterans Day. Your courage and commitment are appreciated. Your sacrifice astounds me, and your love humbles me.

Thank you.
