What do you do when your small group wants to read a book that you have little interest in? Well, when this happened to me before when I was part of a book club, I just skipped that meeting. Oh, I would usually borrow the book from the library and read through the first few pages. But more often than not, I didn’t get far, eventually returned the book unread, and skipped the meeting.
However, this time, I was leading the group. Ugh! Honestly, this was not the book I wanted to read. Not that I knew a lot about it, but I am a reader and I have a stack of books clamoring for my attention. Books I’ve picked myself. And this was not one of them.
Still, the other leader offered two choices, and I agreed that we’d go in the direction the group wanted. And that meant I was stuck reading Fierce Faith: A Woman’s Guide to Fighting Fear, Wrestling Worry, and Overcoming Anxiety by Alli Worthington. Isn’t my excitement dripping off these words?
But now that I’ve read the book? I couldn’t give it a higher recommendation.

Fierce Faith REVIEW
The enemy of our souls wants to distract us, delay us, and discourage us with fear. ~Alli Worthington, Fierce Faith
So, I already admitted that I went into this book kicking and screaming, Well, dragging my feet anyway. I’ve battled fear for years, so reading a book about it wasn’t on the top of my list. I suppose it was a bit of a ‘been there, done that’ kind of mentality. But, as leader, I couldn’t show up to meetings without reading the material, so I plunged ahead. I’m glad I did!
Alli writes simply and honestly, sharing her life including those moments you know she was cringing at sharing. But she admits freely (I’m sure with some hesitation) when she didn’t get it right. And what God taught her in those moments fuels a passion to communicate truth that all women—all people—need to grasp. If you are God’s child, you can win battles against the fears and anxieties that hold you back and cripple your effectiveness.
One-by-one, Alli addresses the most common fears: rejection, parenting, failure, betrayal, missing out, the future, and not being enough. She highlights unhealthy responses, giving practical and relatable examples, and she writes out a battle plan to combat each anxiety.
The Bottom Line – 5 stars
There’s nothing like starting the day with a light-hearted reminder that we are in a battle, but we are great women of God and aren’t to be messed with. ~Alli Worthington, Fierce Faith
