How big of a problem are distractions for you? Are interruptions a normal part of your day, and if so, how do you deal with staying on task? Or at least completely a task? Today author Joanie Bruce offers some thoughts getting sidetracked. Joanie …

Do you ever get sidetracked and detour from what you’re doing at the moment? So many of my tasks never get accomplished because I let something distract me from what I’m supposed to be doing. I sit down to write a chapter for my next novel, but only about 200 words into the chapter, the phone rings.  A friend wants me to find a book her daughter can use for one of her high school homeschool classes … and off I go … leaving my writing far behind. Or while washing a load of clothes, I remember I left my cell phone in the back pocket of my old jeans. I jerk the jeans out of the water, but my cell phone is not there. Now, I’m off … trying to find my cell phone. When I find it on the kitchen bar where it’s supposed to be, I notice I’ve a missed call from a friend who I’ve been wanting to talk to. And, here I go again. Does this sound familiar? How many times do we get distracted while trying to accomplish a task? I even get distracted in the middle of some of my distractions. J

The Bible has something to say about getting distracted from the task God has given us to do. Proverbs 4:27 says Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: Remove thy foot from evil. According to this verse, God wants us to stay on the path He has appointed us to walk to keep from sinning. We are to carry out His instructions and not vary from that task.

What is that task? I believe we are here on earth for one reason only: to glorify and honor the Lord with our lives. Whatever we do should magnify Him. 1 Corinthians 6: 20 says, For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

The devil is a master at distracting us from God’s will for us. He doesn’t want us to happily show God that we love Him and want to honor Him with our actions. Would you like to make the devil angry? Show the devil who’s boss by thumbing your nose at his distractions. Stay on the straight and narrow, honor God with all your might, and God will bless you!

Praise ye the LORD.

Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

Psalm 112:1
